Random Farms on Tour

I am pleased to announce the pilot of a very exciting program at RFKT: "Random Farms On Tour." This fall, we are planning a professional touring production of a musical called The New Kid. The show tells the story of a new boy at a middle school, and deals with themes of bullying, hazing, peer pressure and learning to stand up for yourself. It's also a contemporary pop/rock musical (in the style of High School Musical) with unforgettable characters, catchy songs, playful choreography and a cast made up entirely of kids.

The New Kid is written by Paul Armento, who also wrote the off-Broadway musical, The People Garden. RFKT will tour this production to schools in the tri-state area, utilizing four casts of 12 children. The tour will offer schools an affordable opportunity to bring educational theater to their students; it will offer the performers in the cast professional training combined with the excitement of performing for their peers.

The children chosen for Random Farms On Tour will be able to participate for free. There will be NO COST to perform in the show. Performers will have a short but intense rehearsal period (tentatively scheduled for September) and then hit the road! Parents will need to be able to drive their children to the venues (mostly local, but no more than 1 hr from central Westchester) and children will need to be able to miss up to one day of school a month. Auditions will be held at the end of the summer and open to kids ages 9-14 who can believably play middle-school students.

In order to get the word out to schools about our new show, we need your help. A website with all the info, plus a flyer for teachers, is now online at www.randomfarms.com/tour.html .   Please take a moment to print it out and bring it to a teacher, administrator or PTA member at your school.

What are you to do if you have a heart attack while you are alone.

If you've already received this, it means people care about you ..

The Johnson City Medical Center staff actually discovered this

and did an in-depth study on it in our ICU The two individuals that

discovered this then did an article on it .. had it published and have even had it incorporated into ACLS and CPR classes.

It is very true and has and does work. It is called cough CPR. A cardiologist says it's the truth Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seemed to be in order. Without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating

normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital. Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives!

ICE  - "In Case of Emergency"
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundred s of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?  Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations.  As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.  A great idea that will make a difference!

Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this . It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.

Airline Travel Advice

Effective January 1, 2008, the following rules apply to the spare lithium batteries you carry with you in case the battery in a device runs low:

Spare batteries are the batteries you carry separately from the devices they power. When batteries are installed in a device, they are not considered spare batteries.  You may not pack a spare lithium battery in your checked baggage.  You may bring spare lithium batteries with you in carry-on baggage – see our spare battery

tips and how-to sections to find out how to pack spare batteries safely!

z Even though we recommend carrying your devices with you in carry-on baggage as well, if you must bring one in checked baggage, you may check it with the batteries installed.  The following quantity limits apply to both your spare and installed batteries. The limits are expressed in grams of “equivalent lithium content”

8 grams of equivalent lithium content is approximately 100 watt-hours.

25 grams is approximately 300 watt-hours:

Under the new rules, you can bring batteries with up to 8-gram equivalent lithium content. All lithium ion batteries in cell phones are below 8 gram equivalent lithium content. Nearly all laptop computers also are below this quantity threshold.

You can also bring up to two spare batteries with an aggregate equivalent lithium content of up to 25 grams, in addition to any batteries that fall below the 8-gram threshold. Examples of two types of lithium ion batteries with equivalent lithium content over 8 grams but below 25 are shown below.

For a lithium metal battery, whether installed in a device or carried as a spare, the limit on lithium content is 2 grams of lithium metal per battery.  Almost all consumer-type lithium metal batteries are below 2 grams of lithium metal. But if you are unsure, contact the manufacturer!

Examples of extended-life rechargeable lithium batteries (more than 8 but not more than 25 grams of equivalent lithium content):

130 watt-hour “universal” lithium ion battery

160 watt-hour lithium ion battery for professional audio/visual equipment

Emails, Cards, Supplies For Soldiers

Here are 3 good websites for anyone who wants to individually support soldiers. The first one is where you pick a student drawn postcard that is emailed. You can write your own message or select from a number of pre-written messages. It only takes a minute to send one.

The second site is any soldier.com and you can pick any branch of the service and send supplies, letters, etc.

The third site is one a friend gave me; her daughter is a soldier’s angel: “We adopted a soldier and we send 4 letters a month and 2 packages a month.  He writes her back too, she gets so excited.  These soldiers don't even know that they are on the list.   They are soldiers who don't have any support from family or friends.”
